ILLUMINARIUM BOOTH
The Illuminarium Booth is a hybrid ticketing booth and attract screen meant to serve as a physical anchor for patrons visiting the Illuminarium location in Toronto.
I was responsible for leading all aspects of the architectural design including layout look and feel, technical design including AV positions, mounting details and lighting design, and construction management in association with contracting and AV installation team.
Additionally I was initally responsible for system calibration and testing, projection mapping, and content creation for the booth itself.
The Initial design concepts were branded under ‘Secret Location’, as initial discussions of the joint venture pushed that the location be branded as such. It featured a large ‘end corner’ projection mapping surface, coupled with an eye-catching modern design language that was meant to capture the attention of ticket holders as a place to check in, and draw the interest of passers by.
It was concepted as a ‘CNC Flat Pack’ assembly, with the entire structure making up a lattice that would fit together like a kit of parts. This would allow for rapid assembly and disassembly, as the early concepts of the venue had it as an impermanent installation in the space that would travel the country. Thus, it’s ticketing booth would be able to be disassembled and flat packed, saving on shipping costs.
Eventually, the discussions regarding the venue shifted toward a longer term permanent location, and the branding was changed to align with other Illuminarium venues in the USA. However, the design itself remained mostly unchanged from the early concepts.
